The history of Maison Platz

1900

Founded by Antoine PLATZ and his wife Caroline Wiroth, “Maison Platz”, formerly “Firma Antoine Platz”, can be considered one of the oldest undertakers in Luxembourg. At the time, the shop was located in front of the entrance to the Grand Ducal Palace, while the workshop was at the back of a house in rue de la Boucherie, where the museum is now located. At that time, the "Firma Antoine Platz" started work on a new area. Until then, it was customary for the family to go to a carpenter to have a custom-made coffin made in the event of a death. "Firma Antoine Platz" was the first undertaker in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to have a stock of coffins manufactured in advance.

1964

Two sons of Paul PLATZ sen., Pierre and Paul PLATZ, took over their father's company. The company name was changed to "Peter and Paul Platz". Thanks to their availability 24-hour a day, 7 days a week, the two sons were able to make "Pierre et Paul Platz" known beyond the borders of Luxembourg, and the company still enjoys an excellent reputation today. Gradually, the funeral decorations of houses and churches disappeared and a new form of burial was introduced.

Carlo GRAUL with his wife Marie-Paule GRAUL – Platz and Georges DIRKES with his wife Anni PLATZ, now provided customer service with a wide choice coffins and urns. If the bereaved family so wished, the "Maison Platz" took care of all the formalities. There was also an increase in the number of repatriations to Portugal and Italy.

Today, burials are taking more and more different forms. For example, ashes can be scattered at sea, buried in a forest cemetery or turned into diamonds. Since December 2022, Maison PLATZ has been offering the first Tesla-branded electric hearse in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Unchanged over the years, however, remains the daily contact with death, the grief of families and the incomprehension of relatives regarding the death of a member of their family. 5 members of the current team at "Maison PLATZ" have successfully completed special training in preparing the deceased in Germany with the "VDT Deutsche Einbalsamierer e.v.". This enables us to offer make-up and body care services for the deceased if required. The entire "Maison PLATZ" team guarantees understanding, discretion and professionalism at the service of families.
